Freebird Kitchen and Bar tempts White Plains diners with Southern style comfort food

After years of working at area restaurants and biding his time, Nick Fusco's patience paid off last year, when he was able to lease a space on the city's burgeoning Mamaroneck Avenue restaurant row.

"It was definitely about location," the 2001 Harrison High School graduate said. "Mamaroneck Avenue is a hot spot for restaurants."

The result is Freebird Kitchen and Bar, offering southern-style comfort food, a huge selection of craft beers and small batch whiskey that is earning a reputation as a go-to spot for smoked and barrel aged cocktails.

"We wanted a place where people can come in and have a good time," Fusco said. "We want people to enjoy good food and drinks in a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. We're still evolving and deciding what works and what doesn't, but so far, things are going very well."
