Review: At Pax Romana in White Plains, Eating as the Romans (Mostly) Do

Pax Romana, an eating emporium that opened last February in White Plains, is a smart salute to the culinary traditions of Rome. In a city where Bloomingdale’s must stand in for the Coliseum, and the gushing water feature in front of Trump Tower at City Center is as close as you’ll get to anything remotely like the Trevi Fountain, the team at Pax Romana is valiantly turning out plates of cacio e pepe and spaghetti carbonara for an appreciative pubblico (public).

The sprawling space — replete with a gelateria, Foosball nook, dining room, ample bar and open kitchen — was moribund on a Tuesday night but delightfully festive on the subsequent Saturday. Splitting the difference, we visited for a third time on a Thursday, when the number of diners and the pace of service seemed just right.
